About

I'm Adrian, and I build furniture by hand from my workshop in Somerset.

The Somerset Workshop started in 2020. I'd just lost my job during the pandemic and, like a lot of people, found myself rethinking what I wanted to do with my time. I'd always been happiest making things with my hands, so I cleared out a workspace, bought some timber, and started building. The first desk I made was for myself. The second was for a friend. Word got round, and before long I was making furniture full-time.

Six years and nearly 1,000 pieces later, that's still how it works. Every desk, table, bench, and shelf that leaves the workshop is built by me, to order, to the exact size you need. There's no warehouse full of stock and no production line — just solid wood, good tools, and the time to get it right.

**What I make**

I specialise in solid wood desks and dining tables with steel legs, finished in Osmo Polyx-Oil hard wax. The Osmo range gives you 15 stain colours to choose from, each one bringing out the natural grain of the wood in a different way. I also work in black walnut and oak for customers who want a premium hardwood.

Everything is made to your measurements. If you need a desk that's 137cm wide to fit a particular alcove, that's what I'll build. No compromises, no closest-standard-size — your exact dimensions, every time.

**How it's made**

Each piece starts as rough-sawn timber that I plane, cut, and sand by hand in the workshop. I finish everything with Osmo oil, which is plant-based, hard-wearing, and brings out the character of the wood without sealing it under layers of plastic-looking varnish. The steel legs come from The Hairpin Leg Company, a UK manufacturer, and are available in six different styles so you can match the look to your space.

Furniture arrives with the legs detached for safe delivery. Assembly takes a few minutes with the fittings included — no special tools needed.

**Why it matters**

When you buy from The Somerset Workshop, you're not getting a flat-pack from a factory. You're getting a one-off piece, built by one person, from solid wood that will last decades. Every board has its own grain, its own knots, its own character. That's not a flaw — it's the whole point.

Free UK delivery on everything. Built to order. Built to last.
